Introduction to the Semantic Web
The Semantic Web was first aired in public by Sir Tim Berners-Lee back in 2001. However, it has only been in the last year or two that it has started to emerge from academic research and make its mark with significant commercial deployment. This has been due to a number of factors, including maturing of the standards, growing awareness by architects and developers, and the development of new tools and simplified standards lowering the barriers to entry.
This talk gives an overview of the goals of the Semantic Web, briefly presents some of the W3C standards that underpin it, and lists some examples where the deployment of these standards has provided significant value for the organizations involved. The talk aims to give simple introduction to the Semantic Web and its technologies for architects and developers.
